She was the daughter of Arvel Sherman Allender and Roxy Pearl Gosney (source 1). She was baptized on April 2, 1911 at Merritt Presbyterian Church in Elk City, Oklahoma (source 3).
She married Ira Burton Burwell on May 24, 1919 in Beckham County, Oklahoma (source 2). However, she left him and took her children with her to Halstead and then moved onto Hutchinson in 1938 (source: family lore and source 1). Ira and Cecil had six children (source: Violet Burwell McCandless):
