Jeremiah Phelan Packer

Jeremiah Phelan Packer was born April 22, 1821 in Richland County, Ohio to Aaron Packer and Sarah Phelan. He married Mary Ann Horsman on December 29, 1848 in Belmont County, Ohio. They had children:

7. Annie E. Packer, b. abt 1867 in Missouri

8. Arky J Packer, b. abt 1870 in Missouri

In 1850, the family appears in the 1850 Census for Pleasant, Hardin, Ohio.

In 1851, their daughter was born in Indiana.

In 1857-1859, they had two children born in Ohio.

In 1860, the family appears in the 1860 Census for Prairie Twp, Washington, Arkansas.

In 1862, the family was in Arkansas, where Jeremiah served in the United States Civil War. He enlisted on November 20, 1862 in Elkhorn, Arkansas with the 1st Arkansas Calvary (Union) as a Private. He was injured in December 1863 and suffered from left-sided hemiplegia for the remainder of his life. He was discharged at the close of the war on August 23, 1865. His military papers state he was 5'6" tall with grey eyes and brown hair. He was a laborer who could not read or write. He was Protestant. During the war, he was promoted to Sargant.

In 1867, their daughter was born in Missouri.

In 1870, the family appears in the 1870 Census for Flat Creek Twp, Pettis, Missouri under the name "Parker."

In 1880, the family appears in the Montague, Texas 1880 Census where Jeremiah is listed as a farmer.

His wife Mary died in 1885.

According to records listed on Find A Grave, Jeremiah then married Lavica V. Wright on January 30, 1887. They separated sometime prior to 1891.

Jeremiah then married Francis J (Beckner) Evans on Sept 14, 1891 in Carthage, Jasper, Missouri.

He entered the US National Home for Disabled Soldiers on October 27, 1898 and died of "chronic diarrhea" on December 18, 1898. He was 77 years old.

He is buried at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
