Sir William Clopton, Lord of Castlynes

Sir William Clopton, Lord of Castlynes, was born in 1458 in England to Sir John Clopton and Alice D'Arcy.

He was Knight of Kentwell in Long Melford, Suffolk, and London.

He married Joan or Jane Morrow, daughter of William Morrow and Margaret Rich in abt 1470 and had the following children:

5. Catherine

6. Anne

7. Margaret

8. William

He also married Katherine Unknown in abt 1489.

He also married Thomasine Knyvet in about 1490. They had the following children:

1. Richard

2. Frances

Grandson of Sir William Clopton and Margery Frances Drury, and Sir Robert Darcy.

Firstly, married to Joan or Jane Morrow, daughter of William Morrow and Margaret Rich. They were married about 1470 and had three sons and five daughters: Elizabeth, wife of Sir Geoffrey Gates John Clopton Dorothy Clopton Robert Clopton Catherine Clopton Anne, wife of Richard Poley Margaret, wife of William Awstine William Clopton

Secondly, husband of Katherine (Hopton?), married about 1489.

Married thirdly to Thomasine Knyvet, daughter of Thomas Knyvet and Elizabeth Lunsford. They married about 1490, had two sons, Richard, who married Margery Playters (their son was William Clopton)and Francis, who married Bridgette.

Sir William died testate 20 Feb 1531 with a will requesting burial at Long Melford "nythe unto the places wheras Jane & Dame Katherine my late wyffes lieth buried."

Thomasine died in 1536.
