August 09, 2010 - 9:47 AM – Patterns

Today marks our 10th comic (storyline wise, excluding the one bonus comic) so we are officially in double digits! And today is 8-9-10. While I don’t really have any belief in the magical nature of digits or the esoteric relationship of numeric patterns, I have always been fascinated by them. The universe is full of interesting and infinitely repeating patterns.

I have recently been sucked into a new BBC series SHERLOCK, which is a modern re-telling of the classic Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stories.  It was penned by the same person who writes for DOCTOR WHO and it is fantastic. While I did, to some degree, enjoy the Sherlock movie last year with Robert Downey Jr, I think the BBC series got the spirit of Holmes just right. You get to try and keep up with him as he uses the science of deduction to put together patterns.

By coincidence, 8/9/10 is the 221st. day of the year. Perhaps there is a pattern to be found in all these numbers after all.

I have seen the big net many times in movies and television, but I have never seen one used in real life. But, really... how much fun would it be to jump into one of those?

TRANSCRIPT:

Panel 1: EXTERIOR NEIGHBORHOOD

Brandon and Holly are walking home from the Restaurant. On the street in the background there is a cluster of emergency vehicles.

BRANDON: I feel a lot better now. I am really glad you came over. I've missed you.

HOLLY: Me too. It's been to long.

Panel 2:

HOLLY: (noticing the commotion) Is that a fire truck outside your apartment?

BRANDON: (Looking over, but no too surprised) I think so.

Panel 3:

HOLLY: Oh my god! Is that Phil up there?

BRANDON: Yup. Looks like...  (unconcerned) So you want to get some dessert?

A Firefighter is passing by

Panel 4:

PHIL: (Yelling from out of frame out of his window) The Net! Bring out the Big net! I'm going to jump!

FIREFIGHTER: What are you talking about? The fire is out.

Panel 5:

PHIL: And your point would be...?

Panel 6:

    BRANDON: So... Dessert?

    HOLLY: Oh you betcha.
