082112 Dead Giveaway

One of the major problems of only posting twice a week is that some of the secondary or more subtle plot-lines get lost. It just takes too much time to get back around to them. For example, today's comic. 

We first learned that Phil and Sara started dating in the strip "Uncomfortable" which was posted on 12/13/11, which was kind of a big deal because Sara shot down Brandon when he asked her out by telling him she was gay(and THAT strip, "Is it Really Rejection?" was posted way back on 11/9/10!) In the subsequent strip "Age is Relative" Sara explains that she turned down Brandon because she didn't want to date an older guy. Phil covers the fact that he and Brandon are the same age by using his laptop as a distraction/ bribe. 

As far as the story is concerned, Phil and Sara have only been dating for a relevantly short period of time, so it's plausible that he has kept the age gap under wraps- or at least a non-issue. But for readers, it's been almost a year since the set up of this particular plot reference.

They say if you have to explain a joke, then it's not funny... but for a joke that spans almost two years... I think it should be allowed.
