Two Experiments on Color

Two Experiments on Color

Primary colors make up the colors we see around us. These two experiments are good for beginners and young children. They give the opportunity to practice scientific methods in measuring, following directions, formulating hypotheses, making observations, and drawing conclusions. If your food dyes do not mix well when dissolved in water, try tinting icing instead. The "observations" can be spread on graham crackers, and they taste delicious! You may wish to have extra glasses for the adventurous scientists who like to mix all the colors, or for mixing different proportions.

Black is the combination of all the colors. The Black Ink Experiment gives students the opportunity to see the colors separated out from the black. This experiment can also be tried with orange, purple or green markers for interesting results. Design your own experiment and use the blank lab sheet to record your results!
