The Home School Legal Defense Association recommends that Christian families write a full statement of their religious conviction about homeschooling. In this way, you will be prepared to be defended successfully on religious freedom grounds should the need arise. The document should be signed by the parents and children over sixteen. It should clearly state your belief that God requires you to teach your children at home. It is helpful to quote scriptural passages for each statement to show that your beliefs are grounded in your religious faith. A blank form is given for your family to write. Some possible Bible verses to reference are:
* And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. (Deuteronomy 6:7)
* Hear, my son, your father's instruction, and reject not your mother's teaching, for they are a fair garland for your head, and pendants for your neck. (Proverbs 1:8, RSV)
* The promise is unto you, and to your children... (Acts 2:39)
* And thou shalt love the Lord thy God will all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. (Mark 12:30)
* And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Romans 12:2)
