Physical Fitness Tracking Chart Instructions

The Physical Fitness Tracking Chart is a means of establishing a baseline prior to starting the Homeschool Physical Education/Fitness Training program and to track a student's progress. It is important that students practice correctly before taking physical fitness tests. Before the Baseline test, you should observe at least two weeks of fitness training (starting slowly) to avoid injury during the initial test.

The Tracking Chart is designed to keep records for one student. Print a chart for each student and complete the top of the chart (BMI from the PCPFP page 10). Based on your observation, you may choose for one student to set his goal award level as "Presidential" and for another student at "National". PCPFP Qualifying Standards are available for: Presidential, National, and Health. Complete the first line of the Tracking Chart from the PCPEP page 8 or 9. (For new students to physical fitness training, it is recommended that you start no higher than "National" level.)

Each time a test is run, complete a line on the chart entering the number of repetitions, etc under each column. You should schedule tests monthly.

You may want to annually (on his birthday prior to starting a new Tracking Chart) calculate fitness level against the standard for the student's age. Calculating fitness level against the standard allows you to compare your student's progress. Under the PCPFP, students who achieve 85% of Presidential on all events receive the award and students who achieve 50% of National on all events receive the award (see PCPFP page 2 for details).

Calculate Fitness Level against the standard as follows: (% can be less than or more than 100)

      1. For Curl-ups, Pull-ups, and Push-ups: divide your student's # of repetitions by the standard and enter the percentage (%) in the chart.
      2. For Shuttle Run and One-mile Run: divide your student's elapsed time in seconds by the standard and enter the percentage (%) in the chart.
      3. For V-Sit: divide your student's inches by the standard and enter the percentage (%) in the chart.
