Latin and Greek Prefixes and Roots

In this section you will find a large list of Greek and Latin roots and prefixes. You may print the "notebook lists" for students to study by the page, or you may create flash cards. To make flash cards, print the flash card set you would like. Most of the sets will print four or five pages. Fold the paper lengthwise down the middle and glue so that the root is on the front and the meaning is on the back. (A glue stick is easiest to use, but other glues or tape will work as well.) Finally, cut to make individual cards. Cards may be laminated with clear contact paper. You may wish to print the Latin roots on white paper and the Greek roots on yellow paper so that the students can recognize the differences between the two languages.

A fun project is to print out the notebook lists and brainstorm for words that use the roots. Write the words alongside the meaning in the second column. A web site that provides information on roots and their derivatives is provided below.
