Gravity Experiment

Name of the Experiment: The Gravity Experiment

Performed by:________________________________________

The Problem: How does the speed with which an object falls compare to its weight? Does the shape of the object make a difference?

The Hypothesis:

The Experiment: You will need a book and a piece of paper which is cut to be a little smaller than the cover of the book. For trial #1, hold the book and the paper at the same height and let them drop at the same time. For trial # 2 place the paper on top of the book so that no edges extend over the book. Let them fall together. Did the objects fall together or did one object arrive later than the other? For trial # 3 crumple the paper in a tight ball, then let it fall at the same time as the book. Did they strike the floor at the same time? If not, which object reached the floor first? Record your observations on the chart below. Repeat the experiment several times until you get consistent results.
