Siphon Experiment 2

Performed by: ____________________________

Date:______________

The Problem: What will happen when a full siphon is placed between a full bowl, which is raised, and an empty bowl?

The Hypothesis:

.

The Experiment: Siphons have legs of different lengths. You can make your own siphon with a flexible straw. For this experiment you will also need two bowls. Fill one bowl full of water and set it on a telephone book. Place an empty bowl on the table next to the telephone book. Fill the flexible straw with water and put a finger over each end so that the water does not come out. Place the short end of the flexible straw in the bottom of the bowl of water and the long end in the empty bowl. Release both ends. What happens? (You may have to try the experiment several times until you get consistent results.)
