FEATURED SEASON

Spring

Ku are all about the seasons; both the natural and the calendrical. Seasonal changes are at the heart of ku. Their cyclical variety - forever returning. The seasons remind us that we are embedded, seamlessly, in the miracle of existence. . .

People are increasingly afraid. The modern world has broken their spirits. They want lyrical ku. They want word art They want to huddle in mediocrity's narcotic womb. There's no censorship here (other than offensive or supercilious comments deemed redundant - even Tricky Ricky is, more or less, intact; God bless 'im). If you behave yourself you will not get blocked. Simple. If responders don't know how to conduct civilized discourse, or cannot (as result of compulsive verbal flatulence), they will be restricted from posting. People are fast because they are afraid. Way to enjoy ku is the way of slowness. Speed kills. We hold these truths to be self-evident. I rest my camera bag. - jp

Bamboo Basket, 20th Century, Japan

In Japan, utilitarian baskets became a form of artistic expression when the Japanese copied 9th-century Chinese baskets, being greatly influenced by Chinese art and crafts during this period.

Today there are fewer than 100 living bamboo artists remain in all of Japan as it takes a decade to apprentice with a master and decades still to establish one’s own style and voice. Today’s artists are not really considered until they are in their 50s or 60s.

Sometimes, albeit perversely, one panders to populist lyricism. ◠‿◠

L1 references a thick fog (English colloquialism). L2 "Sometimes called 'Lent lilies', true wild daffodils have disappeared from many areas through over collection by gardeners. Drainage schemes have added to their decline."

Despite the associated pic, this experience occurred on night haiku walk (ginko), having wandered inadvertently into a stranger's garden. lol

There's no crime in cueing lyrical visions. However, I tend to do 'look at this and see' ku. Rather than setting up a pastoral delight, one invites the reader to DIY. One appreciates that the latter is more demanding than the former. Most times a lyrical ku is posted there is a popular response, it must be said. Another thing is that anything associated with edgy satire is anathema unless sugared with mitigating artificial sweeteners. And so we conclude that it's showbiz. This being an online ku diary is the point. One's priority is to balance personal integrity with public consumption; but, not at any cost.

I chose an injunction originally ("listen"), rather than a participation ("listening"), in order to invite the reader to share the experience that I had just had. A less objective way would be to add an 'ing' for a lyrical engagement :
