The Japanese sound-bits are smaller than our syllables. Here's neat term for the Nippon ones (on / ji / morae) http://bit.ly/syllabet !
NOTE: Sound = on / character = ji / morae = time-frame. Spoken haiku in Japanese traditionally has a 5-7-5 ON count per section.
When written down these sounds transcribe to JI. Both are morae in the sense of time-frame. [Onji as a compound word does not
exist in Japanese.] The conclusion is that 5-7-5 syllable equivalent for haiku in English is an error and leads to heavy and prosaic
results. The best solution is succinct natural rhythm in free form.
On (Japanese prosody) - Wikipedia
On (音) is Japanese for "sound". It is used to mean the phonetic units counted in haiku, tanka and other such poetic forms. Known
as "morae" to English-speaking linguists, the modern Japanese term for the linguistic concept is hyōon moji (表音文字).

There are 3 cup barrows (Neolithic tumulus/burial mounds] in and around the village. One is hidden in a corn field, one is disguised as a small woody knoll and then there's this haiga one in its open and perennial concealment.

There's a great depth to this question and a way into the deeper aesthetic of kokoro underlying the geophysical we wander through in our beautiful ginko-minds. One axis is the psychology of perception tied into the actual landscape's forms. The other is the history of landscape development, by nature1 and nature2 (human industry), respectively and in dynamic juxtaposition. (There's more than this but that will do.) Yes, LEY LINES - what a neat concep . . . Acupuncture meridian of the living earth. Needles of Stone. Furthermore, I'd say archetypal is one end and the passion play of the world, the other. Or, we could extend out into nothingness by placing the archetype in the middle of the see-saw. HAIKU FILTERS will feature a tentative schemata. Waffle or wisdom, it's all in the mix and part of the universal data-flow which is the living wind.

"In Zen Buddhism, zazen (literally "seated meditation"; 坐禅; Chinese; zuò chán pinyin
or tso-chan Wade-Giles)is a meditative discipline practitioners perform to calm the body
and the mind, and be able to concentrate enough to experience insight into the nature
of existence and thereby gain enlightenment (satori)."

"haiku walk or ginko taking a walk for the specific purpose of writing haiku. Oftentimes,
haiku walks are done as a group. The group meets at a central location, usually selected
for its beauty, dispersers for an agreed upon time, walk around the location writing haiku
and then met back at central location to read and share the poems the members of the
group have written."

NOTE
The BIG image behind the surface effects of this haiga, as we move deeper into the
inner-movie, is the rotating earth. (Ginko -haiku walking / zazen - seated meditation; my
comment here resolves the paradox of these two apparent opposites.) I mention that
because a fast glance will not reveal the static yet orbital and rotating world of nature,
necessarily. Not the last word or anything, just worth a headsup?
