The notion of an oubliette (trapdoor in ceiling of an otherwise totally enclosed space) is a gentler way of thinking? This also accords with many systems of metaphysical explanation. The violence of shattering seems to belong to early shamanic methods and less useful in our modern times.

NOTE

Although for populist reasons I usually reference as 'haiku', the truth be told, the only way out of the classic haiku vs modern haiku conflict is to distinguish global haiku as haiku and classic haiku as hokku. Hokku was, originally, the opening tercet (3 line stanza/verse) of a social poetic chain re·ac·tion called 'renga' (as we all should know). However, hokku was also a standalone medium which, eventually, was raised to a mystically inclined fine art form by the heavenly mandated Matsuo Basho. Since then many changes have occurred (usually for the worse). And so we arrive in modern times. Now with all sorts of variations vamping on the original somewhat sublime technique, and all associating themselves with hokku under the dodgy blanket term 'haiku' (Shiki). Much more could be said about all this (and will be, no doubt); however, for the time being that's my thought for the day.
