A good ku exercise in perception/cognition (which leads to intuition/instinct - where zoka percolates like starlight in indigo) is to look at any familiar object objectively. Ask your habitual self : "What is happening here?" Try this with a door in your house which you use all the time; perhaps without regarding how it works in space/time and what it means psychologically in appearance and function. . . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Door

NOTE This post is really a mnemonic to fix an insight which occurred yesterday. It saves me the task of writing up an essay to myself. It was one of those realisations which come completely out of the blue (presumably after much gestation). Several pieces of a jigsaw came together as I talked silently to myself (the idea being that this is a medium for unconscious material to formulate in consciousness - not to be confused with 'monkey chatter', or 'little voices'). Occurring in a pause during another activity. Anyway, I can easily and quickly remember the conceptual visualisation, with this post's (seasonally spun) synopsis, a specific coordination of a few simple things which are more than the sum of their parts.

Hedges and their bird residents fascinate me. It's all very intricate and relatively massive in there. Not to mention mind-bogglingly labyrinthine. In the warm half of the year, here in rainy England, the little birdies appear and disappear, from and to their cacophonious abode. Just the incessant chirping gives them all away. However, in the cold half of the seasonal round all is revealed. And, what a sight to see! My God, those little winged folks are utterly amazing as they navigate their grand hotel. I particularly am regularly gobsmacked to smithereens by their astonishing solo and formation flying, as they braid themselves (at terrifyingly high speeds) through their complex maze jungle! Up and down and all around; not to mention, all along and in and out. As for perch options, how many grains of sand compose a beach? It's not so snug in their twigloos after autumn's fall, though. . .

"Hogmanay is, however, normally only the start of a celebration which lasts through the night until the morning of New Year's Day." - Wikipedia
The "hinge" is the pivot between the old and new (Janus at midnight). It needs lubricated, traditionally, with intoxication ('getting oiled') to open annually. You see, the old side of the annual ritual tribal event is illustrated in the associated photo (there's a nursery on the other side, as indicated on a sign). These are just some of the ideas artfully woven into this tartan ku. Of course, the 'birth pains' of each hangover clinches the sacrificial deal. And...another brave new world is punctuated on the (in this case) Gregorian calendar. I wonder, in the speed of turnover, whether many pause (in their headlong dash to oblivion) long enough to 'read' ku in depth. Which begs the question and is a perennial herd of pink elephants in many rooms. People ask me (quite often) why I bother. The answer is so obvious that there's hardly a need to reply. Out of courtesy one usually does, though. It's a diary.
