How it all started

I came from a very enterprising family, our entire life was based around living and working at home. Diligence was the essence, nothing was left to chance, every opportunity taken. Now it was my turn to establish my own home.

I was fortunate I had all the means necessary, my instinct for survival was in my DNA, there was no doubt that I would do well. The most essential correct decision was location. I had learned that location was the key to success, then came diligence and I had been well equipped for that.

I carefully selected a location for my new home, through traffic is an important consideration but the right sort of through traffic is more important. The structure of my new home required careful planning. The foundations or anchor points as I prefer to think of them are very important. Some flexibility is important and of course strength. I set about the construction with enthusiasm, diligence, diligence I kept telling myself. I can and will succeed but diligence is required.

Anchor points selected, yes I think of foundations as anchor points for good reason, this is a suspended structure, my new home and the means of my livelihood. The main supporting members in place, I set about the finer structure, all those interconnected components that make this, should I now call it enterprise, come together into a home and the source of my livelihood.

Any slight flaw or incidental damage will require immediate attention. I must be prepared for any necessary repairs but I am now ready, I am satisfied with my location, my diligence in construction. I take a moment to admire my work. Don’t get carried away I say to myself, early days yet, the proof of the pudding is in the eating and all that. Just be patient, take your place and wait, that is the name of this game.

It is a warm and sunny day, not much breeze and plenty of insects about. Patiently waiting, there is a sudden vibration and the spider swiftly moves and grabs and binds the insect trapped in the web. He retreats and waits again. See my diligence has already started to pay off. My location is good the structure of my web is good. I will live well here. Am I enterprising, I would say so says the spider to itself.
