Make Mine a...

Justin rose just after 8 am that morning and unsteadily made his way to the bathroom to start his day.

Peeking out the window showed it bright and sunny though the air felt cool. He yawned, stretched and continued to dress and get ready to face the day.

Feed the dog and fish, get rid of the recyclables left at the back door from last night, and lay the table for breakfast.

When this was done, he put the kettle on and sat down to wait for the water to boil. He thought about putting the TV on but decided not to. If the world had ended while he was asleep they could tell him about it later – he just wasn’t that interested!

Well, no good putting it off, his publisher was on his case to submit more copy for his book which was overdue and if he didn’t come good soon they would cut off his royalty advances.

Dam! He didn’t like working under pressure but he had to grudgingly admit that was when he did his best work.

Dragging his feet to his desk by the window overlooking the neat little garden out back, he opened his laptop and booted it up. Opening his manuscript file he recapped his last entry and thought about the next adventure his hero was about to undertake. Justin started tapping away at the keyboard recording Jack Brownlow’s encounter with the beautiful Princess Angelique of Minervia on the planet Orphious.

The morning slipped away for Justin deep in concentration manipulating his hero and the cast of many in his book when the front doorbell rang.

Bringing Justin back to earth with a rude jolt. Dam! He hated it when his concentration was disturbed and he angrily made his way to the door ready to give the person on the other side a serve for his trouble.

Opening the door with a wild tug he was about to launch into a tirade when he saw the person standing before him was an attractive blond with a beaming smile – fantastic white teeth to blind you with and his words crumbled in his mouth. He didn’t know this lovely creature but suddenly felt he’d like to get to know her intimately!

Instead of the tirade he intended he politely asked how he could help this delight to his eye. It deflated him when he discovered a second person standing just off to the side and heard the words ‘they were here to spread the word of the Lord’. So much for his carnal thoughts.

As he packed them off as politely as he could, still disappointed that his day had taken such a roller-coaster twist, he thought irritably ‘I need a drink, barman, let’s make mine a…’
