No Escape

He had left the busy city

With the police upon his trail

He had taken twenty-thousand

From a bank in New South Wales

Though his exit had been hasty

And his baggage, it was few

With the money that he carried

Was sure to get him through

He had entered into the bushland

Where the tallest gum trees grow

And hidden from the sunlight

Where the changing winds do blow

Yet the feel of fear and panic

Had left him for the day

But the gentle breeze that's blowing

No escape, it seems to say

As he pushes further inward

Crossing mountain stream in rain

Does he hear the gentle whisper?

No escape, it says again

As he reaches mountain zenith

He sat and rested for a spell

But in the hazy distance

There are policemen, he could tell

In panic now he rushes

Down the distant mountain side

But the police in greater numbers

Follow like the ever flowing tide

He has halted, beat and cowered

With the cuffs upon his wrist

And he ponders on his action

And his fate that took a twist

As he faces judge and jury

No escape, the judge has vowed

For twenty years your put away

No escape nor appeal allowed.
