I HATE Writing Poetry in Rhyme

Carmel says, just do your best

You’ll be sure to pass the test

But I start, stop and falter

And mess every thought I alter

I hate writing poetry in rhyme.

I hate writing poetry in rhyme

When there are pursuits more sublime

In science to find

An enzyme to bind

An oil from algae and slime

I hate writing poetry in rhyme.

I feel it is a waste of my time

I could say

In an elegiac way

Don’t do poetry; do mime.
