Now Nyssa is a saucy lass

Now Nyssa is a saucy lass, she’s Barry’s backyard girl.

Mostly she’s just beautiful when summer breezes whirl.

When autumn comes, well then she strips and wouldn’t you just guess?

She throws it all around the yard and makes a holy mess.

Now someone has to clean that mess, which she herself can’t do

So Barry has to gather up, from the yard and gutters too

All that Nyssa threw around, her colours gold and brown,

While chasing off the playful dog that gambols all around.

Dog scatters all those colours more, and makes more work again

And roof and gutters must be cleared before the autumn rain.

When winter comes with frosty cold, Nyssa stands so bare

And gentle sunshine filters through to warm the chilly air.

Inside the house, the people wait for springtime to appear

When Nyssa once again awakes and draws her clothing near.

This time she clothes herself in green, all soft and clean and new

And reaches out to spread her shade and catch the morning dew.

Spring is when she grows anew, prepares for summer’s heat

And cools the scorching courtyard bricks, protecting burning feet.

When summer starts to drift away as autumn comes again

Nyssa bows to nature’s wish and the cycle starts again.
