The main goal for the PTSO is to get more involvement from Students and Teachers and to try and ensure that student life continues on, as normal as possible. With a difficult and unique year for RHS, a new way forward needed to be implemented.

The School asked the PTSO to join with the School Clubs to help the individual clubs reach their objectives and help in any way possible.

This all kicked off in October when we initiated 5 drives. Each of the Charities that we supported were truly thankful for all the donations that they received. Read about all we've accomplished in this short amount of time. Thank you to the Ramsey Community for your generous donations. Together, we have made a difference.

Thanksgiving Drive
Thanksgiving Drive
The first to be completed was the Thanksgiving drive where we collected food donations. We knew that we had 44 families within the High School Family that Ramsey Responds helps all year round. With the help of a Shoprite donation and the amazing donations from Parents/Students with managed to get 44 Thanksgiving lunches for Ramsey Responds to distribute. We had so much extra food that this also went into the food closet at Ramsey Responds to add to their pantry. Students: Syndey Manzo, Nick Garofalo, Tommy Gaffney and Michael Laino helped to unload all the donations at Ramsey Responds.

Goryeb Children's Hospital Toy Drive
Next, we completed a toy drive for the Goryeb Children’s Hospital in Morristown. Samantha Edelson approached us to ask for help get new toys for this Childrens Hospital for the Holiday Season. Goryeb is Located on the campus of Morristown Medical Center and part of Atlantic Health System Children's Health, Goryeb Children’s Hospital is a nonprofit, state-designated “Children’s Hospital” – an earned recognition from New Jersey and the national Children’s Hospital Association. With more than 250 community pediatricians on staff and more than 100 board-certified pediatric specialists, we’re northern New Jersey’s leading specialized pediatric hospital. To meet high demand, Goryeb Children’s Hospital is currently expanding its pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and adding inpatient beds. These spacious private patient suites will feature the latest equipment and rooming-in accommodations for parents, as well as a dedicated pharmacy for improved safety and quality of care. The toys donated were being set up as a ‘Shop’ for the parents of the children that would be in hospital over the holiday season, so that they could choose a present for their child. The Edelson family cleaned every toy before taking it to the hospital. They collected 99 gifts.

The next drive was for the American Red Cross – Greendrop. The American Red Cross was collecting everything; clothes and shoes, kitchenware, bedding, toys, and books to take to all the displaced families across the country due to the Bush fires that devastated large areas of the Country. We were so proud of the Ramsey Community, who donated over 200 boxes of items. The Red Cross were so appreciative, and we have now helped hundreds of families in need. Students, Tanner Kleinberg, Kaelin Farley, Rebecca Francis and Maya Winger came to the school to help load all the boxes onto the Greendrop truck.

Next on the list was for Oasis. This is a haven for Women and Children. They are a non-profit organization in Paterson, NJ. They offer educational and social service programs that help women enter and succeed in the workforce and help children flourish academically. They also operate a soup kitchen and provide emergency food, clothing, and social support to the city residents in need. We decided to support them with their Holiday program. All items had to be new items. We supplied 90 gifts, wrapped presents to the center for the children to ‘shop’ and take for their Mothers, Grandmothers, and caregivers. We collected all new ‘feel good’ and useful items, such as new winter clothing, (including, hats, gloves, wraps, ponchos, socks, slippers) cosmetics, jewelry, hair care products, toiletries etc. All donated by the Ramsey community. Along with the 90 gifts, we gave them other supplies to put into their closet such Hair Products, make-up, toiletries and more. We also gave them over 15 boxes of brand-new books for the children and some winter clothing and sleep wear for the children. This was a major undertaking but so proud of the Ramsey Community for all the donations and for the Parents who helped to wrap all the gifts.

Lastly, to finish off the 2020 drives was to the Veterans Clothing Closet in Paterson, NJ. This a place for the male and female Veterans to get back on their feet. They provide free clothing, hygiene products and small household items for our Veterans. They asked us for Business wear and coats mainly as these items were in short supply. Again, the Ramsey Community supplied some amazing items. We took a full carload to them!
Lastly, to finish off the 2020 drives was to the Veterans Clothing Closet in Paterson, NJ. This a place for the male and female Veterans to get back on their feet. They provide free clothing, hygiene products and small household items for our Veterans. They asked us for Business wear and coats mainly as these items were in short supply. We finished off the Year with the Annual Staff Breakfast. The Student Families donated money so that Bagel Boys in Ramsey could supply both bagels and parfaits for our wonderful staff at Ramsey High. The Leadership group of students supplied written notes to all our staff, to make it extra special and to honor the staff that go above and beyond for their students.
