Stacy Amaya, Class of 2022
Winter Guard is in short, the indoor version of Color Guard. In Color Guard, we typically perform with a band during the fall. In Winter Guard, we perform with a recorded track playing in the background while we perform in a gym. Winter guard practices every Monday and Thursday from 5:45pm to 9pm and we practice in the upper gym. Being part of Winter Guard is such an amazing thing because everybody has an important role during the show. Our coaches are amazing people who tell us that there is no reason we should ever doubt ourselves while performing. It is a great bonding experience and I have met so many great people and made friendships with so many of them.
In past years, the Ramsey Winter Guard has been small but it has been growing a lot. When I joined my freshman year, we only had 12 people and now we have 18 members. All the people who join love doing winter guard and they try their hardest every practice. Being in winter guard teaches us responsibility because we each have to memorize our work and counts in the show. Not only do we think of our work during practice but we take that home too. Some of us even take flags and rifles home to practice during the weekend. Being in winter guard helps with our time management because we have to balance our schoolwork and other activities along with guard. All in all, I think winter guard is an amazing opportunity to be a part of because develop and grow during the season.
