Ramsey High School is committed to fostering student leadership. This is done daily in the classrooms, formally in our Leadership Training Program, through athletics, co- and extracurricular activities, and in the arts. One specific example that I would like to highlight is how we plan special events together like Relay for Life, where students are paired with adults to lead the event. The growth in students’ ability to lead, as a result of their involvement in planning Relay for Life, is amazing. Much like the fight against cancer, solutions to keeping schools safe will not be achieved overnight.
Currently, the student Event Leadership Team for Ramsey Relay for Life has been hard at work planning for June 7th! Due to impending construction, the event will be held indoors beginning with the Opening Ceremony at 7pm. The goal this year is to raise $132,000 to put the event at the $2,000,000 total for eleven years. The theme, Under the Sea, was chosen by the students as a metaphor for the journey of a cancer patient. Patients may feel as if they are under water; however, the funds raised through Relay help to fund research and support programs that can be life saving. Students provide updates via Instagram: RFLofRamsey and all are encouraged to visit the webpage to register a team, donate or purchase a Luminaria to light the way.
