Best Buddies is a worldwide non-profit, volunteer organization that engages in friendships and connections with people who have an intellectual or developmental disability (IDD). It is a global movement that allows opportunities for individuals with an IDD to have one-to-one friendships, unified employment, leadership development and inclusive living. Our mission, as part of the RHS Best Buddies chapter, is to form meaningful, elaborate friendships, celebrate diversity, create one-to-one friendships with students who have an IDD based on similar interests and hold activities and events that allow these friendships to evolve and grow. The RHS chapter is relatively new and is open to adding new members to our club to spread inclusion throughout the school and among the students. Our meetings are held once to twice a month, usually during lunch, where we meet with these students and do an activity to get to know them. The commitment level depends on the role the student takes, whether it is an associate member (not part of a one-to-one friendship but is involved in the activities) or a peer buddy (someone who has a one-to-one friendship.) We are excited to kick off this year with a bang, having many new goals and new members. We hope to see this club thrive throughout the 2019-2020 school year. Go Rams!
