On April 26, 2019, our High School ran a Homeroom Advisory schedule. Each of the grade levels had an assigned presentation to address mental health, future careers, and dorm safety. The Freshmen class was assigned to the Lecture Hall and the refurbished Cafeteria to learn about Mental Health and how to identify signs that a peer or a friend may need to get some help . As a result, students were given a chance to practice their empathy, reflection, and communication skills. The Sophomore students were individually surveyed, and then assigned to see 3 of their top choices of careers. Fortunately, with the coordination efforts of Tess O'Hara and with the help of the Guidance Department, we had over 25 community members volunteer their time for the Career Day in which students learned about the value of self-direction, communication, creativity, and collaboration skills. Finally, the Junior and Senior class viewed the captivating program titled After the Fire. The presenters, Alvaro Llanos and Shawn Simons, discussed dorm safety, perseverance, responsibility, adaptability, making healthy choices, and candidly told their impactful story of overcoming adversity.
