Going into high school, I had never participated in any kind of organized sport in my life. If someone were to tell me that four years from the day I joined spring track my freshman year that I would be a state champion in my event, I would have laughed in their faces. That is the beauty of coming to Ramsey High. Our school is full of achievable opportunities as long as the student is willing to put in the work to take them. Being a part of a sport during my four years of high school has taught me what it means to be a team player, and to always persevere even when things don't go your way. Most importantly, it has allowed me to create some of my strongest friendships, with both my teammates and coaches, that would have never been possible without the countless hours spent together at practices, on busses, and at meets.
Putting yourself out there as a freshman is a scary thing, but doing so is something I will forever be thankful for as it allowed me to join a team I have come to care so deeply for. A group of senior athletes emphasized this message to our current 8th graders:
'As I am preparing for my last 2 seasons with the Winter/Spring Track and Field program, I am excited to see what the incoming freshman have to offer the team as a whole. The 8th grade visitors were proudly told that being a Ram is a huge responsibility, not just to your team, group and yourself, but to your community. Being a Ramsey Ram does not necessarily mean being the star quarterback on the football team or the most decorated in your event. It means that you are there to support your fellow classmates through all their triumphs and defeats.'
