During this year's spring break, I was fortunate enough to be able to go on a cruise to the Bahamas with my chorus. When she first announced the trip at the beginning of the year, we could all hardly believe that it was possible. We were all buzzing about it every month up until the trip.
When the time came where we were finally able to go, it turned out to be even more amazing than anything we had imagined. Upon arrival, we went to a meeting where rules and our itinerary were laid out for us. Throughout the week we had free time to hang out, swim, and eat as much food as we wanted. We were also able to enjoy shows like Burn the Floor and Billion Dollar Quartet. Then at the end of each day we all met up and ate dinner together.
Some highlights of the trip were when we sang in Braider Square, which was right by the entrance into the Bahamas. We were also able to perform a concert in Fat Cats, where we had a full house filled with our fellow sea dwellers for the week. Each piece we sing held a different level of meaning to each member because we had grown so close over the course of this trip. Any chorus teacher can say that their chorus has a better sound when they are able to connect on a personal level with each other.
I do have to say the best part about the trip was the fluidity of not only every chorus member, but also Mrs. Saltzman. When we were unable to get off at the private island and have our beach day, she came to the rescue and set up another day we could go to the beach. She did this all without a bat of an eyelash. Through every wave, we were able to surf over every problem as if we were professionals. All in all, the chorus trip to the Bahamas was an all around amazing experience that I will remember for the rest of my life.
