In this painting of hands, I used watercolor. The process of creating this was difficult in certain ways and areas. In order to make a realistic hand, I had to use my observational skills and the details the way I saw them. With my left hand, I would create the position I wanted and with my right hand, I drew it. I used radial balance by making the hands appear to be reaching towards the center of the paper. For the background I used value by transitioning the darker blue to a lighter blue in the middle where the hands meet.
This artwork is based off of the realism movement. Many of the realism artworks are dull and show the true or bad version of the subject that the artist makes. To incorporate these factors I drew three roses in different stages of life in order to show it’s different sides. The details in the roses added texture and made them look more realistic. My goal was to incorporate techniques that were used in realism, like realistic details and contrast. I was able to achieve this with the different materials and values I used in my piece.
