Peter Mariani is a Ramsey High School graduate and currently serves in the U.S. Navy as a Nuclear Engineer on a submarine. When he visited my architecture class, he talked about what he does and his experience on a submarine. His job is to maintain the nuclear power plant on the submarine for a couple of months at a time.
The skills he uses on the submarine are ones used in the High School today. He works on a team to help maintain the plant, using skills such as self-reliance and the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively. He also uses knowledge learned in classes such as Chemistry, as well as knowledge learned in Nuclear Engineering School.
I learned a lot about what he does on a daily basis and the importance of the skills our school is teaching students. Working in groups and building relationship skills is vital in the real world, as Pete showed the class.
