On March 22, 2019, our High School ran a Homeroom Advisory schedule. Homeroom Advisory has been meeting throughout this school year to build relationships, discuss big ideas, and practice critical skills. For example, Freshmen have been asked to work on goal setting, focusing on an academic mindset, volunteerism, and Digital Citizenship. Our latest Homeroom Advisory offered us a chance to develop collaboration, communication, and critical thinking skills. The video above helped introduce the topic, and led our discussion to consider the negative aspects of social media, and how to become a proper Digital Citizen.
Digital Citizenship is extremely important more so now than ever before. With almost everyone connected through social media, it is easy for someone to make a mistake. That is why it is extremely important for people, especially teens, to ultra careful on the internet. Over the past couple of years and especially this recent advisory period, my classmates and I have learned a lot. For one, the internet is forever. Once you post something it doesn’t go away so it’s super important to know what the repercussions of your posts will be. Also, communicating with your friends can be tricky. Without body language involved, it can be difficult to interpret your friends. Try to call someone before you text them. Voice tone is super important as well. Overall, digital citizenship is super important and people have to be cautious.
