A Profile Project is an authentic, multifaceted capstone project that allows for exploration of a passion, personal interest, or curiosity. The Profile Project requirements are designed to be a culminating academic experience for all seniors that takes various forms as a product, presentation, or event. The goal is for student Profile Projects to demonstrate competencies and skills expected of ramsey graduates, such as critical thinking, research, self-sufficiency,problem solving, oral and written communication, reflection, etc. - i.e., skills that will help prepare students for college, modern careers, and adult life. We are very proud of the effort our seniors have put forth thus far, and would like to share with you the progress they have made in their research for their Profile Project.

Background Information
For my profile project proposal I would like to explore and experiment the effects of aromatherapy on relieving stress. Like most people I have a lot of stress in my life that is hard to handle. Lately I have had people tell me that aromatherapy would help self-induced stress and stress that just comes all on its own. My goal is to determine what scents, and technique uses of aromatherapy help relieve stress that we have on a daily basis. It is very common for the average person to have stress; but recently the stress percentage has increased over the past few years.
Significance of Project
Finding ways to relieve stress has gotten harder to accomplish; mainly because people do not know how to deal with it. I struggle with stress, and a few other examples at most 7 days a week; which I bring on myself, and other times it is from others that they put onto me. Aromatherapy helps with a lot of other things that people have trouble with. Some examples are: reduce anxiety, depression, pain, improves sleep, quality of life, and fights off bad bacteria that is on your skin. Aromatherapy works by one of your five senses; smell, when you breathe in the different essential oils it triggers receptors and messages are sent to your brain. This statistical experiment will help whole lot of people that do not know how deal with the stress they have, or anything that will impair your health.

Background Information
For my profile project proposal I would like to explore exercising. Since I want to major in Nutrition/Dietetics in college, eating healthy and exercising is something that is really important to me. For my experiment, I’m going to survey many individuals in different age groups, genders and how often they exercise. I am going to put out a survey with questions helping me to answer my proposal which will then give me enough data to explore this topic. I will have to make sure the responses I receive are not bias, so that I receive the proper information to help me to come to a conclusion. My goal in completing this is to find and determine the patterns in different genders and age groups.
Significance of Project
I’m really excited to complete this project and find out the information from my survey. This experiment is extremely important to me because of the career path I want to follow. Since exercising ties into nutrition and your overall health I can take the data that I find in my experiment with me when I'm researching in this field one day soon. Not only is this of interest to me, but I also think that it's something really important to look into since the United States has one of the highest obesity rates. Once I complete this survey I think it will be good to see the numbers and maybe once people realize how little most people exercise, which in result may help to decrease the obesity rates.

Background Information
For my profile project proposal would like to explore the death rates between prescribed and non-prescribed drugs. My goal is to see if there are more deaths from prescribed and non-prescribed drugs.
Significance of Project
A lot of people have been overdosing on opioids on both the local and national level. As the graph below shows this has been a problem for many years and it is only getting worse.
This has caused a tremendous amount of grief for families of victims. This is something we have seen happen in Ramsey, and all over Bergen County. Many people don't think of prescription drugs as killers because they come from a doctor. However, abuse of prescription medicine can lead towards opioid abuse or even be the direct cause to the overdose itself. It is important that people be informed about prescription drug use so they can prevent it in the future.

Background Information
Will be investigating the extent to which black dog syndrome occurs and try to determine ways to minimize its effects. This will hopefully lead to better pathways for shelters to get black dogs adopted and reduced the high rate of euthanasia.
Significance of Project
The proposed phenomenon may be due to a number of factors. Research has identified geographic location, fear stigma against certain breed types, and the fact that large, black dogs are often portrayed as aggressive in film and on television as possible correlates. Initial research at one location identified a longer period experienced by black dogs before adoption, but subsequent studies considered to be more robust (as conducted in a larger number of geographically spread shelters) has shown that when shelter visitors video-recorded their walk through the adoption area, they spent equal amounts of time looking at every dog, regardless of coat color. Other studies have suggested brindle dogs may be more likely to experience longer delays before adoption than black dogs. Coat color bias seems evident, but may change depending on geographic location.
Some people believe that during the pet adoption process some potential owners associate the color black with evil or misfortune (similar to the common superstition surrounding black cats), and this bias transfers over to their choice of dog. Additionally, many shelters feature photo profiles of their dogs on the shelter website. Because black dogs do not photograph well, lighter-colored dogs have an advantage with potential adopters browsing the site. A study done by the Los Angeles Animal Services challenges some of these claims, saying that a full 28% of adopted dogs are black. However, the bias theory simply asserts that predominantly dark animals take longer to be adopted than their lighter counterparts, and that large dogs take longer to adopt than small ones.
However, appearance in general does play a role in potential adopters' selection of shelter dogs. In a 2011 study by the ASPCA, appearance was the most frequently cited reason for adopters of both puppies (29 percent) and adult dogs (26 percent).
