From years 2009-2013, my sister Sophie-Leigh Keirby Baxter-Clark, attended Ramsey High School. Throughout those four years, Ramsey’s education helped shape her into a distinguished person and student. During her sophomore through senior year in the school system, she was a part of the Instrumental Music program. Band taught her the importance of forming strong connections and being able to work with a team. Being a part of that program also helped her to obtain music scholarships to The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. Sophie encouraged and inspired me to join the Ramsey High School music program and I am thankful for that shared experience. The academics at Ramsey High School also improved her leadership skills which she would need later in life with her choice of pursuing a military career. Sophie also stated, “Ramsey’s education helped me learn how to balance school work, my responsibilities and having a life.” All of these skills would prove to be useful as she continued her education.
At The Citadel, she earned the rank of Cadet Major as the Battalion Academic Officer, held the position of Music Library Director and 1st chair Trombone for the Regimental Band and Pipes, and fulfilled all Army training requirements while pursuing her degree. Sophie participated in President Trump’s Inauguration Parade in 2016 and attended the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo with the Regimental Band. She graduated Magna Cum Laude (3.85 GPA) with a B.A in Non-Western History with Minors in Criminal Justice and Intelligence & Homeland Security. After working constantly for four years as a female at a primarily male school, she received a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army and has since been to the Military Police Basic Officer Leadership Course. Now, as a Platoon Leader forward stationed in South Korea, she is responsible for the training, safety, and welfare of 54 Military Police Soldiers, 12 Military Working Dog Handlers and 8 Military Working Dogs. At the age of 22, Sophie has achieved a great amount and her years in the Ramsey School District definitely proved to be helpful in what she would face later in life. She is an inspiration to me and to many others that she has met.
