Every October, 8th Grade students at Eric S.Smith Middle School are given the opportunity to explore all that Ramsey High School offers. As the buses pull up and students walk out, they are welcomed by the Big Blue Drum Line and the RHS cheerleaders. Upon entering the auditorium, they are treated to a performance by the RAM Jams and some inspirational words from Principal Dr. Michael J. Thumm. The students then follow a very busy schedule packed with activities focusing on the Profile of a Ramsey graduate. A sampling of classes include: Speech and Drama, Business, Photo & Tech Drawing, and Athletics. Two highlights of the experience are the figure drawing session in the Art room and a tasting in the Foods course. Students also come away with a new appreciation for the high school’s Auto Shop and the state-of-the-art Digital Design classroom. Middle school students enjoy the creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking involved in each of these courses.
The members of the Student Outreach Service happily welcomed the 8th graders to the high school. In teams of two, the leaders guided members of the Class of 2024 to nine different classrooms where future Rams were able to learn about the curriculum, elective offerings, and extra-curricular opportunities. Our student leaders worked to make sure that the incoming students had their questions answered and that they felt welcomed in their future home
