The classes that I have taken that made an impression on me are Visual Arts, Jewelry, Photography, and Ceramics. This year I am taking Advanced Ceramics and Sculpture and Visual Arts 2. A project that has been very exciting for me is the Jali Lantern project in Advanced Ceramics and Sculpture. This project has been exciting because not only did I get to build a more complicated, functional piece in ceramics but I have also gotten the opportunity to experiment with techniques for glazing this piece. I have combined different glazes and used different techniques to do so. This is exciting to me because it allows me to really take control of how I want my piece to look and not be super restricted. I have grown a lot as an artist in my four years of taking art courses at RHS because the art program has broadened my horizons as an artist, introduced me to new mediums and has built up my skills to create an original piece/composition. I do plan to be studying art in the future, specifically printmaking and photography. Art classes have influenced my ability to think creatively in other classes a huge amount, especially when it comes to projects. I do have hobbies outside of school that involve art, my main interest is fashion and textiles. I bleach, dye, paint and sew a lot of clothes and hope to start selling them. Art classes have changed my thinking to be more out of the box and creative. They have caused me to take a completely different approach to new ideas.
