Single term timelines are seldom created since the entire timeline for the upcoming year is imported when schedule preparation begins.
Only terms that do not have development milestones for a specific term launch will be inserted in this manner (for example: 18XXX or 18NoL), to allow projects to be moved into terms while awaiting reschedule and the term has not yet been determined.
If a single term timeline is created, it will only be done by Admin by inserting the Term Start, Term End, and Drop Capacity.
Navigate to Timeline List.
Click on New Timeline.
Enter Term, Term Start, Term End, and total capacity per drop in the Total Capacity field.
Click Insert Timeline.
Once inserted, the system will auto-populate the three drops with milestones for those drops. (Note: Several changes have been made to the development timeline calculations since the creation of CIMS and the calculated [auto-populated] dates will not be accurate to schedule projects.)
The Term and Drop of an existing timeline cannot be edited via the Edit form. If a timeline is imported with errors in the Term or Drop fields, you will have to use the Mass Import feature to overwrite the term information or submit a ticket to have the term removed.
Before you edit, check for projects with that existing Term/Drop because they will need to be updated after fixing the timeline item.
Navigate to Timeline List.
Click on Edit for the term that should be edited.
Edit fields.
Click Save Timeline Information.
Verify corrections in timeline appear in milestones of projects for that term/drop.
The timeline Mass Import tool may be used to create term timelines and associated milestones from an Excel sheet and imported.
Create a Timeline Workbook (sample below). This should include:
Term Start - End dates for New Year (2019 Terms tab)
Working Timeline for each drop with calculations for each field (Worksheet tab)
Create full timeline and determine overlapping production drops (2019 Timeline tab)
Get approval from EDoCs on the capacity for each term/drop (Cap Proposal tab)
Download the Timeline Import Template.
Add Timeline data to the import template.
Once the sheet is complete, save file.
Navigate to the Timeline List and click Import Timeline Data.
Select Choose File to browse and select saved file.
Click Upload File. The data in the spreadsheet file will display.
Verify data appears correct.
Click Import Data. (Wait for page refresh).
Verify all new terms were added.
Filter Timeline for Term/Drops that need to be modified.
Leave first three columns on export intact (TimelineID, Term, DropID). Remove columns that will not have modified data.
Update data fields for columns that will be modified. (Note: If empty cells are on the import sheet, the data in the system will not be overwritten with a blank. Any default data in the system will remain. To remove data, you will have to edit in Edit form.)
Save as Excel file.
Navigate to the Timeline List and click Import Timeline Data.
Select Choose File to browse for file and select file.
Click Upload File. The data in the spreadsheet file will display. Verify data appears correct.
Click Import Data. (Wait for page refresh.)
Verify data was updated.
Verify that projects with modified Term/Drops are displaying the updated milestone dates.
