In the C&I course development process, a development project can involve:
A course that is currently published in the catalog.
A course that is being developed ahead of it being published in a catalog.
A non-catalog offering such as an open course or assessment for credit (ASK).
A special project that encompasses several courses or a non-curriculum project that requires C&I resources.
A project scheduled by Ops Leadership for global changes, course maintenance, compliance/regulatory, or technology upgrades.
In any of the scenarios above, a course record must exist in the CIMS Course List in order for a project to be created on the Master Project Schedule (MPS) in CIMS. In all except the first scenario, a corresponding course may not yet be created in the CIMS Course List prior to the project being scheduled on the MPS.
For this reason, a placeholder course must be created in the CIMS Course List so it is available in the MPS for scheduling.
Only certain roles will have permission to create new placeholder course records.
Navigate to the Course List (use Course top navigation tab).
Select Create Placeholder Course button.
Entering the Course Number
All course records must have a course number that identifies the course and is 10 or less characters.
The course number should be the Registrar approved Course Content ID and will follow the following format norms.
Open College Format: ABO113
Open College PANeL format: ABO113PX
Assessment for Credit (ASK) Format: AB113X
Outcome Module Format: AB113M1, AB113M2, AB113M3, etc
Alternate Research Pipeline version of a course: AB113RP
Alternate Peregrine version of a course: AB113PER
If the course record is for the express purpose of creating a special project or a project that will cover multiple courses, or the course number is yet unknown, the following format should be used:
School of Business - BUXXX_1, BUXX_2, etc
School of Nursing - NUXXX_1
School of General Education - GENXXX_1
School of Information Technology - ITXXX_1
School of Public Safety - PSXXX_1
School of Legal Studies - LSXXX_1
School of Education - GREDXXX_1
School of Health Sciences - HSXXX_1
School of Arts and Sciences - ASXXX_1
School of Aviation - AVXXX_1
If planned project will cover all courses within a specific program, course number should identify the program (example: MATPRO).
Completing Other Necessary Course Information
Certain fields must be completed on all course records to allow for accurate reporting and integration to other CIMS lists as well as CIMS publishing functionality:
Catalog Information (Must match Catalog; administratively updated with Catalog Updates)
Title
Description
Credit hours
Prerequisite
Clinical Hours: Required for all courses identified as a Clinical Course
CBE Course: Should only be checked if the course is a module course offering
Clinical Course: Should only be checked for clinical offerings that require completion of clinical hours
Is Acadeum: Should only be checked if the course is being offered through Acadeum. Updates will normally be done via import and will not be editable.
Number of Units
Micro-credential?: If the course is part of a micro-credential offering, make the appropriate selection according to whether the course is a for-credit or non-credit course
Related Courses: Enter derivatives separated by a comma. For example, CM102 has CMO102, CM102M1, CM102M2, CM102X
School (Note: This is a publishing parameter and will be used by the system to determine which School Policies will appear in the syllabi.)
Degree Type: Should indicate Degree Level (Graduate or Undergraduate). Note: It is important that no other Degree types are entered because this field is used for a publishing parameter to identify what School Policies will appear in the syllabi.
Course Status (Note: This is a publishing parameter and will be used to determine for which courses syllabi will be published.)
Active - Course is established in CVUE and ready for scheduling and to be offered to students.
Discontinued - FCC has approved the removal of course from the Catalog or in the case of non-catalog offerings, the course will no longer be offered.
Phase Out - Course has not yet been removed from the catalog, but the FCC proposal has been submitted and the school will no longer offer the course on their schedules.
Not Yet Active - New course that has not yet been built, added to the catalog, or made available to students.
Not Currently Active - An existing course that is not currently being offered to students and will no longer be updated until a decision is made to offer it again.
Discontinued Date: Catalog publication date in which course was Discontinued or date the non-catalog course was retired.
UTA Status: Used to note if the course is exempt and identify courses that will be included in Credit Hour Data Base Reports.
Reason for Placeholder (used for reporting purposes):
Catalog: The course is in the catalog. Normally this is assigned via the catalog Update import. Once set, the catalog information is no longer editable.
Not in Catalog Yet: The course will eventually be published in the catalog. (Note: It is important to enter the course number, as soon as it is approved, and exactly as it will appear in the catalog when published so that the Catalog Update import will match up the course details to what is in the catalog.)
Non Catalog: Course will never be published in the catalog but will be tracked as a university offering (Course Assessments (ASK), Orientation, Open Courses, Pilot versions, B2B, Peregrine versions, etc.).
Special Project: Course record being created only for the purposes of creating a project for reporting and workload tracking.
Course Type describes the type of course. (Note: This is a publishing parameter and will be used to determine for which courses syllabi are published.) Options to select will differ depending on the Reason for Placeholder:
