Don’t Let a Missing Fee Pause Your Career!
The school year is winding down, and the Board of School Administrators (BOSA) has sent a communication to MASA, MESPA, MASE, MCEA, and MASSP to make sure your license stays active. If your $100.00 annual BOSA fee for 2025–2026 is still outstanding, your license is at risk of suspension on July 15.
Why it matters: A suspended license legally prevents you from serving in your administrative role. To help you stay on track, a final reminder email will be sent on May 30 (with a copy to your Superintendent).
Important Dates:
June 15: Deadline to pay and stay off the suspension list.
June 22: The Board meets to formally approve suspensions for any unpaid fees.
July 15: Official suspension date for unpaid administrators
Check this off your list today:
The Fast Way: Pay online via the BOSA License Renewal Portal.
The Traditional Way: Mail a check to: BOSA Office, 2 Pine Tree Drive, Suite 306, Arden Hills, MN 55112.
Call BOSA at 651-582-8888 or email Karen.Schaub@state.mn.us for any questions. Let’s get this resolved so you can enjoy your summer worry-free!
TRA Revisions to Know!
During the recent legislative session, TRA made changes to extend by three years the suspension of the earnings limitation for retirees of TRA and St. Paul Teachers returning to teaching service that is scheduled to expire on January 1, 2029, and, without the extension, would impact annuity payments beginning in 2029.
*PELSB and Science Licensure Update*
PELSB Superintendent Representative Kurt Stumpf of Pequot Lakes provided the update that follows regarding the sought after changes to science licensure that MASA and other education organizations have advocated for in recent times. Thank you Superintendent Stumpf for representing superintendents and keeping us informed!
“On Friday, May 15, 2026 the PELSB board voted to direct staff to start the science licensure rule-making process by condensing the number of science licenses to at most two licenses, with the possibility of one 5-12 science license based on the needed number of standards and the timeline to complete a licensure program. The 5-8 science license, as of now, remains in place. If two science licenses are the final outcome, the licensing areas would be 5-12 Physical Science (Physics, Chemistry, & Earth and Space) and 5-12 Biological Science (with Earth and Space standards). The next step in the process is for the rule-making committee to form and dig deeper into the potential specific standards and coursework for narrowing the licensure to one or two licenses. An update will be given to the board in 6-10 months on the progress of the work. With the rule making process and timelines for teacher prep to implement, the changes will impact new teacher licenses in 6-7 years. All current science license holders will keep their legacy licenses through renewal.
In addition, the board has requested to address middle licenses at a future board meeting. Based on the OFP data, the board is considering adding the 5-8 science license to all existing 9-12 science licenses. The board would also like to consider the long term viability of the 5-8 science license and the other 5-8 endorsements (math, social studies, comm. arts).”
Leadership Matters!

Another Quote re: the Superintendency from Horace Mann
“The superintendent of 2026 is no longer simply the district’s chief administrator. The role now combines the responsibilities of educator, strategist, diplomat, financial manager, technology leader, and public advocate.”
