Robert “Doc” Smith was Jefferson’s first Principal starting in 1969.
College Highlights:
He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Gustavus Adolphus College where he played on championship Football and Wrestling teams.
He was the MIAC heavyweight champion in wrestling.
He received his Doctorate degree from the University of Minnesota.
He taught and coached at a number of schools before coming to Bloomington in 1969.
He was intricate in selecting staff, supervising completion of facilities, supplies and equipment and he worked with incoming students to select school colors, mascot, school song, and other traditions at Jefferson.
He supported a program that won over a dozen State Championships and numerous Conference and Region 6 Championships from 1970-1985 in both men and women’s programs.
He served on numerous Minnesota State High School League, Lake Conference, Region and School District Committees serving the Jefferson Athletic programs.
He retired from Jefferson in 1985
