Robert (Doc) Smith (Administrator)

•  Robert “Doc” Smith was Jefferson’s first Principal starting in 1969. 

College Highlights:

• He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Gustavus Adolphus College where he played on championship Football and Wrestling teams.

• He was the MIAC heavyweight champion in wrestling.

• He received his Doctorate degree from the University of Minnesota.

• He taught and coached at a number of schools before coming to Bloomington in 1969.  

• He was intricate in selecting staff, supervising completion of facilities, supplies and equipment and he worked with incoming students to select school colors, mascot, school song, and other traditions at Jefferson.

• He supported a program that won over a dozen State Championships and numerous Conference and Region 6 Championships from 1970-1985 in both men and women’s programs.  

• He served on numerous Minnesota State High School League, Lake Conference, Region and School District Committees serving the Jefferson Athletic programs.  

• He retired from Jefferson in 1985
