Tom Kurvers (Athlete - 1980)
Tom Kurvers was a 3-sport athlete at Jefferson, earning 7 varsity letters. He was All Conference and All State in hockey, with a Jefferson career record of 15 goals, 42 assists, 57 overall. As team captain, he led his team to a 3rd Place State finish in 1980. At the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Tom's career record included 43 goals as a defenseman and most career assists at 152. He was named All American, WCHA MVP, and First Team All WCHA. As the top collegiate player in 1984, he won the Hobey Baker Award. Tom played 11 NHL seasons with 7 different teams: Anaheim, Vancouver, Toronto, New Jersey, Buffalo, Montreal, and the New York Islanders, and played in 58 NHL playoff games. He was a member of the Stanley Cup Champion Montreal Canadiens in1986. In 659 games, Tom scored 93 goals and 328 assists for a total of 421 points. He received the Lake Conference Outstanding Athletic Achievement Award in 1986. Tom completed his MBA at the University of St. Thomas in 1997 and currently serves as Director of Player Personnel for the Phoenix Coyotes. He lives in Eden Prairie with his wife Heather.
