Laura (Gardner) Stromgren (Athlete - 1978)
Laura Gardner won 9 varsity letters in tennis, basketball, track, and softball at Jefferson. She was a member of the 1978 State Basketball Championship team, and her team won 3 Region 6AA championships. In 1978, Laura was named the first Miss Basketball. She was also named All Conference, All State, and won the Athena Award in her senior year. Her college career at the University of Minnesota included NWIT All American, ALAW All Region, and MAIAW All State titles, having scored 1,000-plus points for the Golden Gophers. Laura was a member of the USOC National Sports Festival Midwest Team and the 1981 Big Ten Championship Team. She is a University of Minnesota Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee, and in 1983 she received the Lake Conference Athletic Achievement Award. Laura currently lives in Bloomington, where she is a social studies teacher at Valley View Middle School.
