Debra (Nelson) Doud

Debra Nelson Doud - Class of 1972

Dr. Debra Doud began her college career in music (flute) performance at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, but ended up majoring in biology and pre-med.  She went on to the University of Rochester, New York and obtained her degree in medicine.  Debra completed her internship and residency at Loyola University in Chicago, and specialized first in Cardiology, then in Interventional Cardiology.  She was appointed the Chief Cardiology Fellow in her third year of fellowship and became Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Cardiology.

Debra joined a Cardiology practice near Chicago, and was on staff at four major hospitals; in addition, she taught communication and physical diagnosis skills at Loyola and was the Medical Director of the Cardiac Rehab program at Edward Hospital in Naperville, IL.  She volunteered at the DuPage Community Clinic, a program for low income uninsured patients, and was on their Board as director of the Hypertension Clinic.

Debra’s medical career was interrupted by rheumatoid arthritis, which caused her to retire from her work in medicine.  She is now studying at the Bower School of Music at Florida Gulf Coast University and concentrating on flute and piano.  She hopes to combine her medical and musical skills in the relatively new field, Neuroscience of Pedagogy.
