11. Academic Planning

What are the Plans for?

Academic Plans is a tool to assist students in building an academic plan to facilitate on-time graduation. Information from the plans can also be used to help filter searches in Navigate. Analytics can also be generated based off of the data within Academic Plans to estimate future course demands which will aid in scheduling. Students will also benefit by being able to register for courses directly from their Plan once we enable One-Click Registration.

Are we required to use Plans?

With the new 0 to 60 Advising Model, all new students will have initial plans created for them in the on-boarding process. Professional Advisors will create the initial plans while Faculty Advisors will further refine those plans later to better fit the student’s interests and needs.

What happens to the Plan if a student changes majors?

When a student changes majors their Academic Plan will remain the same, but some of the courses in the plan may no longer be required. The Student Plan Templates list should update to show that their previous template is no longer recommended, but it will not change what templates are currently selected for their Planner. The student will need to adjust their selected Templates accordingly. In any case their advisor should build a new Plan for the student based around their new major if you have not done so already.

When will One-Click Registration be enabled for students?

One-Click Registration and scheduling will be enabled once we have found that a sufficient number of plans have been created for students. Since One-click registration works best when a student has courses in their plan we do not want to implement until we know Academic Plans are in use.
