Wrestling started their season off strongly, with varsity winning first place in the Dec.1 duel championship, as well as winning the Dec. 6 duel against Sam Barlow 58-15.

The Scots competed and won in duels against three different schools on Dec.1. David Douglas wrestlers won 27 out of 42 matches. 19 of those wins were pins. Seven of the wrestlers had 1 pin each, three of the wrestlers had 2 pins each, and two of the wrestlers managed to pin all three of their opponents.

The first match was against Parkrose, with a winning team score of 64-6, and a total of 7 pins. Their second opponent was Centennial. David Douglas was behind 22-39 but managed to get their score up in the last three matches, which gave them a winning score of 40-39,  as well as 6 pins. The last match they competed was against Clackamas, with 6 pins and a final score of 48-30.

David Douglas went up against Sam Barlow on Dec.6 at an away duel and had a winning score of 58-15, and 8 pins. Dominic Duncan, Troy Hockett, Long Le, Hung Le, and Dylan Sigler were the five Scots who successfully pinned their opponent within the first round.

The new girls wrestling coach, Miguel Simon says all the girls are pushing themselves to do their best. His hopes are for them to make the adjustments coaches have given them, to lead them to success on the mat. “ I'd like to note how awesome the team captains, Makenzie Mills and Tlachinolli Arevalo, are with all the other girls on the team.” Simon said, “they have been true examples of leaders on and off the mat.” He is happy with the turnout this season, although he wishes there were more girls so the practice partners could be sized more equally.

Head Wrestling Coach, Bill Goldsberry has no worries or concerns about the teams this year or their overall performance. His hope is that the wrestlers continue to stay dedicated throughout the season and overcome the adversity they will face during it. "This is a great group of student athletes," Goldsberry said, "and I couldn't be happier to be their coach. Go Scots!"
