Vice principal Jennifer Buscher has been chosen to be the new principal of David Douglas High School, starting in July, after current principal Greg Carradine retires.

Buscher is a very well known staff member in the David Douglas community and has been working in the districts for 24 years.

At a staff meeting in April announcing Buscher as principal, Buscher said she felt  “humbled and honored to be taking on this new role,” and that she “can’t wait to get started.”

Students were involved in the process of choosing DDHS’s next principal.  “ASB wasn’t directly involved, but our Presidential Council was (which does have a couple ASB members on it),” activities director Kelsey Stiff stated. “Our Presidential Council took the data from the student survey that went out about qualities students desired in a new principal. 1,000 of our students completed this survey, and then the Presidential Council created interview questions based on the feedback and data on the survey. Then, on March 13th the Presidential Council interviewed Ms. Buscher. After the interview, they provided our Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents with feedback and their recommendations.”

Twenty nine teachers were also involved in the interview process.

At the staff meeting superintendent Ken Richardson said that Buscher “rose to the top in every single interview station.”

Buscher will  be working closely with principal Carradine for the rest of the year. Carradine has been principal for four years, after replacing previous principal John Bier during the height of the pandemic. Carradine dedicated 27 years to working at David Douglas High School.
