Night with the Scots, on Nov. 21, was a fun and exciting opening for the boys and girls basketball seasons.

The annual Night with the Scots is a fun filled night, consisting of raffle drawings, teacher knock-out competitions, and performances from both the boys and girls teams.

Doors opened for DDHS students at 5:30 pm. Upon arrival, the Girls Basketball team had a pre-scrimmage warm-up for fifteen minutes, then the Boys Basketball team followed with another fifteen minutes. Afterward there were introductions of the night and the National Anthem, as per usual at any sports event, with the first of many raffle drawings of the night.

The girls team players were introduced first, with the second raffle drawing following. The night mainly consisted of both the girls and boys teams scrimmage for about twelve minutes, with scores being kept on the scoreboard, then the teams switched off. After the girls scrimmaged, the Scottish Tams had an amazing performance to an upbeat modern hip-hop track. They had so much energy and pazazz, it was contagious throughout the whole gym.

The boys team players were then introduced, followed by their own twelve minute scrimmage. Their game consisted of cool dunks and amazing shots from nearly everyone on the team.

After the first round of each teams’ scrimmages, the Unified PE class created their own teams and got the floor for their own scrimmage time of twelve minutes. The crowd was rooting for everyone as they made great shots.

The cheerleaders then had the floor, with an incredible performance of a well-practiced routine to yet another modern hip-hop track. They then performed cool lifts and stunts with chants each cheerleader was shouting out. They had the gym on their feet in the end.

The boys and girls had their second scrimmages afterward, with an introduction to the Junior Varsity Cheer team falling in the middle. After the boys were done with their scrimmage, the girls had their performance. They got two teams of 6 people from the audience to participate in their game. A relay, of one person at a time from each team spinning with their head on a baseball bat, then running to a chair and attempting to pop a balloon with their behinds.

After that entertaining masquerade of a performance, the boys had the floor. They got some teachers and teammates to run down the gym and back, but each time they had to add a piece of kitchenware. In the end, they were wearing an oven mit, an apron, goggles, and many other interesting garments.

Then, the boys and girls teams each had a 3 pointer shoot-out competition. The boys team had the floor for open dunks afterward. Players Vitaliy Sergeychuk and Lincoln Satterthwaite had some really good dunks that night, along with Freddie Elliot, Cameron Vanburen, Noor Ali, and G Novello. After the dunks, the teachers got their chance of fame with the annual teacher knockout, one side for the girls team then the other side for the boys.
