The David Douglas High School's varsity girls golf team placed fourth in the third Mt. Hood Conference meet on Apr. 3 at the Glendoveer Golf Course with 436 total strokes.

Five players were chosen to play in this match. Senior captain Tiffany Chiu was the most successful, shooting a total of 100: 46 on the front nine and 54 on the back nine. Coach Whitney Soule gave Chiu the title of "our #1 ranked golfer."

"Our team is all about supporting each other," said Chiu, "As captain, I really enjoy encouraging my teammates and uplifting them after every match. We can all get better together."

Sophomore Olivia Satterthwaite shot 54 in the front and 53 in the back, totalling 107. This was her lowest score of the season. Senior Haley Moreschi shot 109, 53 in the front and 56 in the back. Both Satterthwaite and Moreschi are new additions to the girls varsity team.

"We have two new players, Olivia Satterthwaitte and Haley Moreschi," said Soule. "They moved from JV to varsity, quickly proving that they can be part of our varsity team and score well at our matches."

Senior Ella Botnar shot 120 with 60 in both the front and back holes. Senior captain Norah Cavanaugh was the last one to play in the match and shot 139 in total, 66 in the front and 73 in the back. The Scots are currently sitting at fourth place in the Mt. Hood Conference, shortly behind Clackamas High School.

The weather on April 3 in Portland was a high of 55 degrees. The Glendoveer Course was slightly muddy due to the previous rainy days, but is beginning to dry up as the weather becomes hotter. Golf matches continue on during both sunny and rainy days and are only canceled when there is thunder or lightning. The girls team practices at Glendoveer, so they had the advantage of knowing the locations of all the holes and the conditions of the course.

"We have two league matches left, then our district tournament, where team points are worth double," said Soule. "We are working hard to step it up and beat Clackamas, and take third place overall!"
