Mitski fans need etiquette lessons

In Mitski’s current tour going on across different countries multiple videos have surfaced through platforms showcasing the rude and interrupting fans that scream disrespectful things to Mitski, who has previously told them to stop or not call her certain names to the point of even stopping the song to tell them so, but it seems to be a recurring incident.

Concert etiquette isn’t something new. It’s the same concept as movie theater etiquette where everyone sits down and enjoys the movie without ruining the experience for the rest of the people in the room. With the recent new wave of fans her and her music have gathered due to her new album The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We and the popularity of a specific song from it, My Love Mine All Mine, taking tik tok by a storm and being used in more than 2.1 million videos on the platform, it has really gotten the word out and it is these new fans that seem to be the most disrespectful ones.

Mitski is a very private person when it comes to her personal life and had already quit touring and social media entirely back in 2019. In more recent times during her ongoing tour, she voiced her boundaries about being called names such as “Mother.”

The atmosphere that she wishes to achieve in her shows and tours is different from most loud concerts. Mitski tries to create a more intimate and quiet atmosphere that matches her music. Screaming for attention along with flashing lights from phones and pictures is something she has called out on before. Her management team had posted to her Twitter a small comment about her request to put phones down during her show some years ago, which received an enormous amount of backlash from different people claiming to need to record due to mental disorders and other conditions. Even if those claims are real, it is important to still respect the artist’s wishes at the end of the day, it is the respectful thing to do.
