Classical Academy Online - News
November 12th - 16th
Dear Classical Academy Online Families:
Thank you to everyone for your support, as the CAO team went to Phoenix for continued professional development with Summit Learning. It was a great experience and gave us further insight and data to support our use of the learning platform and this unique approach to education. Classical Academy Online students are making amazing progress.
We were originally going to have 7-day Expeditions at the end of the semester. Due to student progress and projects, we are not going to have Expeditions for the 2018-19 school year. Instead, all projects will be due before Christmas break and students will have January 7-15 to prepare for our Academic Celebration and Expo on January 16, 2019. Students will choose their favorite projects, from first semester, and have the opportunity to showcase their project! More details to come soon... but, we wanted to make sure you mark the date on your calendar and have the most up to date information.
Secondly, our attempt to fully digitalize work samples has not been as successful as we hoped. It is difficult to audit full online files. Therefore, we are going to return to our original method of collecting paper work samples by each big deadline. Each student has a folder, organized by cohort, in the self directed learning area. Students can turn in work samples, for each class, to the lab supervisors by each big deadline. A work sample can be a page of notes, a checkpoint for a project, or an assignment. It should be no more than one page and include the student name, date, subject, and teacher's name in the upper right hand corner. The cohort/mentors name should be written in the right hand footer of the sample, to help keep files organized. Please check with your mentor if you need further clarification.
We are excited that the west wing of the CAO property has been freshly painted, new signs have been installed, and new led light fixtures have been installed in the building. Over the next few weeks, a new gate will surround the entire property. We are excited to continue the renovation process to make CAO the best learning environment for our students.
Thank you for being flexible and forward thinking with us!
Dr. Stacey Perez
