Classical Academy Online News

February 24th - 28th

Dear Classical Academy Families,

Let's talk about successful study skills! Study smarter, not harder is a great place to start. With Summit Learning, we ask students to set weekly goals in the platform. This is equally important for students, as it is for teachers. Setting goals for students allows them to create a plan, implement self regulation skills, and identify what needs to be completed. For teachers, it provides data, workshop groupings, and mentoring information. We are only a few weeks away from the end of the 3rd quarter. How will you set yourself up for success? Set goals, meet with your mentor, and do not procrastinate!

We are here to support student progress and success. How can we help you? Have you reached out to a teacher of team member for guidance and support? Do you have questions that remain unanswered or you haven't had a chance to ask? Don't forget that we host a Parent Power Hour every Friday between 9-12 pm. Office hours and Parent Power Hours will be hosted February 28 and March 6. The following two Fridays will be Cohort Conferences. Be sure to be prepared.

Thank you for your partnership.

Dr. Stacey Perez

Community Service Opportunity!

This is a SUPER easy way to get some Community Service Hours.  Every year CAO hosts the Rocket station at Super STEM Saturday.  We need help cutting out the template for the rocket for kids to build.  It's a simple design, but there are hundreds that need to be done.  You can help out while you are on campus (just stop by Mr. McElmell's classroom) or you can take a stack home to work on them at home.

If you would like to help out or need more info, contact Mr. McElmell or Mrs. Tanner

Big News! Students can receive Palomar College Credit for classes at CAO!

What is high school articulation?

An articulated high school course is one in which a determination has been made that a course offered at the high school level is comparable to a specific community college course. High school students have the potential to earn college credits by taking an articulated high school class. When a student earns at least a letter grade of B or higher, high school and FREE college credit can be earned at the same time.

The Classical Academy Online program has been approved for the following articulated courses with Palomar College:

Keyboarding; a one-semester class offered zero period, equivalent to Business 165

Digital Art - Illustrator: year-long class offered third period, equivalent to GCIP 152: Digital Publishing/Illustrator I.

Keyboarding will be offered second semester, zero period, at Classical Academy Online. Students may enroll in this class by signing up on the waitlist with Mrs. Chatton. Priority will be given by grade level, starting with Seniors.

Students currently enrolled in Digital Art - Illustrator are already eligible and will be provided with information in class to sign up.

We are so excited that our caliber of classes are being recognized as college level instruction!

The school will not allow deliveries from third party services, such as (DoorDash, UberEats, etc.)

Need Community Service Hours?

We continually publish new community service opportunities for students. Don't leave hours until the last minute!

This year, we have an opportunity to support the Fitness Freedom Project, which provides affordable gym memberships to Veterans. By filling a two-liter plastic soda bottle with dimes, you can donate the bottle to FFP for 50 community service hours! A filled bottle is a $500 tax-deductible donation that helps Veterans in our own community. This community service opportunity is in memory of Jay Coon.
