Classical Academy Online - News
February 25th - March 1st
Dear CAO Families,
Can you believe that there are only 14 weeks of school remaining for the 2018-19 school year?! Here are some friendly reminders and updates to keep us all on track:
The first set of work samples, for quarter 3, are due in your cohort folder. The next set of work samples are due the week before cohort conferences, which are March 21 & 22.
Students should be setting all goals, in Summit, every Monday, as well as making sure they are meeting with their mentor (cohort teacher) at some point in the week.
All reenrollment paperwork is now past due. If you plan on returning to CAO for the 2019-20 school year, please make sure your paperwork in complete.
Please make sure you are checking Schoology for all communication with teachers, updates from the school, and for all resources.
Course selection forms and course descriptions have been released through Schoology. Plan on making your course selections by your next cohort conference.
Classical Academy Online will be closed at the end of the month, March 28 & 29, 2019, as the entire team will be participating in a Summit Learning Spring Convening. Please plan accordingly for all content assessments, teacher guidance and feedback.
How can we help you this week? What tools will help you find success? We are here for you!

Here’s an opportunity for Community Service Hours:
Remember - students can only participate if they are caught up on their school work and they do not have a workshop during that time
We need help preparing for Super STEM Saturday, which is a big event at Cal State San Marcos (CSUSM), on Saturday, March 9, 2019. Classical Academy Online will be hosting a Rocket Launch Booth. Guests (usually very young kids) will be making rockets from paper and tape, and then launching them. We need your help in cutting the pieces from paper templates to make the rockets. It is a simple task that does not require a lot of thinking.
As long as you are in good standing in your course work…
Grab a friend (who is also in good standing), a pair of scissors, a template, and a paperclip.
Cut the template on the solid lines, and then paperclip the seven pieces together.
Our Goal is to have 400 rocket kits (cut and paperclipped) by the event date.
When? Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:30 AM (Alternative times may be arranged, too.)
Where? Student Lounge
Who? You and your friend(s)
Why? Opportunity for Community Service Hours, and a chance to talk without being “shushed.”
Please see Mr. McElmell for more info.

CAMS is looking for Tutors!
Classical Academy Middle School is looking for High School Students who might be good writing and math tutors, who understand the summit platform and willing to help out some middle school students. You would be recommended to parents as private tutors, and it could be an opportunity to get tutoring experience. And if you choose to volunteer your time, you could use it for Community Service Hours!
If you are interested, you need to be in good academic standing, recommended by teachers (formal recommendations aren't necessary), and willing to work demonstrate patience and flexibility while working with younger students.
Contact Sarah Pierce for more information: spierce@classicalacademy.com
Applicants Needed: FBI Teen Academy
The FBI San Diego Division's Teen Academy is an opportunity for high school students to get a comprehensive look at today's FBI. The Teen Academy takes place in the summer, and is open to current high school sophomores and juniors grade who live in San Diego and Imperial counties. There is no cost to attend.
The San Diego Division will begin accepting applications on March 1. Students with a combination of a good GPA, participation in school activities, and community involvement are encouraged to apply. For more details, visit the FBI Teen Academy webpage or contact Charmin Lindholm.
